What is the NEEC?

The Nu Energy Efficiency Challenge is a school and home based activity which will help us to reduce the amount of energy we are using at school and in our homes.

We will look at how we are currently using energy and then explore ways to become more energy efficient. You will be able to explore lots of energy saving tips and make a plan.

Mum and Dad will need to give you the latest water, gas and electricity bills so you can add in how much energy you used as a starting point. The Challenge is to use less energy in the billing period than you did in the same time last year.

Your parents will be really happy because it will also save them money!

Why should I get involved?

The Nu Energy Efficiency Challenge gives you the chance to make a difference. You may think that one person turning off alight or not leaving the water running while brushing your teeth might not make a difference. It does!

If we are going to look after this planet we are all going to have to take responsibility for it. If we all do something, no matter how small, it will make a difference.

Remember: “From little things big things grow!”

How do I join up?

If your school is involved

  • Your school will give you a special code so that you can enter online. This code will make sure that your energy savings are recorded against your school and grade so that we can find out which grades and schools are the best energy savers in Australia.
  • You will need to enter the Challenge website (I will provide you the URL as soon as I get it)
  • Go to the registration section and fill in your details.
  • You may need your parents to help with this.
  • Once you have registered you are ready to start the challenge.

If your school is not involved

  • Show your teachers the website so they can enter the school.
  • Go to the registration section and fill in your details. You can fill the school part out when your school joins the challenge.
  • You may need your parents to help with this.

Once you have registered you are ready to start the challenge!

What does it cost?

It’s free!

In fact it will save you money and our environment.

How much time does it take?

The Challenge is set out in an easy step by step process. Registration may take about 10 minutes and the family may spend half an hour doing the audit and putting together their plan.

We have provided a weekly report which we suggest will only take five minutes to fill in to track your progress. The only other time commitment is carrying out your plan.
