What is the NEEC?The Nu Energy Efficiency Challenge is a school and home based activity which will help us to reduce the amount of energy we are using at school and in our homes. We will look at how we are currently using energy and then explore ways to become more energy efficient. You will be able to explore lots of energy saving tips and make a plan. Families and schools will need to help with the latest water, gas and electricity bills so you can add in how much energy you used as a starting point. The Challenge is to use less energy in the billing period than you did in the same time last year. All information is security protected as each family and school will be able to provide its own password. The energy consumption information is solely for the participant’s reference and used as a means to measure improvement. It will not be passed onto any other party. The Nu Energy Efficiency Challenge is:
Why should we get involved?Make a difference! The Nu Energy Efficiency Challenge gives your school the chance to make a difference. We are always looking for activities we can participate in as a school community. The Nu Energy Efficiency Challenge provides school communities with the opportunity to make a difference. Climate Change is an issue which faces all of us and the only way that we are going to make a difference is for all of us to get involved. It’s a great learning activity! The Challenge is not designed to limit learning to the classroom. It is a ‘hands on’ learning which combines the forces of society’s most powerful educators, the family and our schools. It is success driven, encouraging families to continually improve their energy efficiency. Great outcomes for minimal input The Challenge does it for you. There is minimal work required from the school in the setting up or maintenance of the challenge. The software does it all. The sky is the limit! This is a wonderful tool which will allow you to build and develop wonderful learning opportunities for your children not to mention fostering school and community spirit. How does my school join up?This is an easy online process! You will need to nominate a school liaison officer. Most of the school’s details will already be entered on the database. You will need to fill in a worksheet which outlines the grades/classes and the number of families in each. The Challenge will then generate a unique code for each school and grade. All the liaison person needs to do is supply the students in each grade with their code. As each family enters the code a family code will be added. This will allow each family’s energy savings to be recorded against the student’s grade and school in the search for the schools and grades which are our greatest energy savers. Schools will also be able to enter the school so they can participate in the challenge and compete against other schools! What does it cost? It’s free! In fact it will save you money and our environment. How much time does it take? The Challenge is set out in an easy step by step process. Registering the school should take about 20 minutes. The amount of time spent completing the audit and plan is up to the school. We have provided a weekly report which we suggest will only take five minutes to fill in to track your school’s progress. The only other time commitment is carrying out your plan. The Challenge does all the work. It will provide you with the audit, useful tips and the plans as well as a progress report form. It will generate graphs and statistical information for the school to use. What happens at the end of the year when the grades/classes change?Easy! The Challenge will prompt the School Liaison Officer to go into the system and re-enter the grade structure. It is then simply a matter of reissuing the new registration code to the students who will need to enter it onto their family Challenge. |
