What is the NEEC?The Nu Energy Efficiency Challenge is a school and home based activity which will help us to reduce the amount of energy we are using at school and in our homes. We will look at how we are currently using energy and then explore ways to become more energy efficient. You will be able to explore lots of energy saving tips and make a plan. Parents will need to help with the latest water, gas and electricity bills so you can add in how much energy you used as a starting point. The Challenge is to use less energy in the billing period than you did in the same time last year. All information is security protected as each family will be able to provide its own password. You family energy consumption information is solely for your reference and used as a means to measure the family’s efforts. It will not be passed onto any other party. Families are always looking for ways of stretching the budget. Here’s a fun way to save money and help our planet at the same time. Why should we get involved? The Nu Energy Efficiency Challenge gives your family the chance to make a difference. We are always looking for activities we can participate in as a family. We all have different needs and interests. We are all interested in the health of our planet. So this has the potential to be a great family activity which everyone can participate in. Not to mention the money you will save which could be used for all sorts of fun family activities. You may think that one family turning off lights and limiting the use of our cooling and heating or not leaving the water running while brushing your teeth might not make a difference. It does! If we are going to look after this planet we are all going to have to take responsibility for it. If we all do something, no matter how small, it will make a difference. Remember: “From little things big things grow!” How does my family join up?If your children’s school is involved
If your children’s school is not involved
Once you have registered you are ready to start the challenge. What does it cost? It’s free! In fact it will save you money and our environment. How much time does it take? The Challenge is set out in an easy step by step process. Registration may take about 10 minutes and the family may spend half an hour doing the audit and putting together their plan. We have provided a weekly report which we suggest will only take five minutes to fill in to track your progress. The only other time commitment is carrying out your plan. What happens at the end of the year when the grades/classes change?Easy! The Challenge will prompt the School Liaison Officer to go into the system and re-enter the grade structure. It is then simply a matter of reissuing the new registration code to the students who will need to enter it onto their family Challenge. If we have children at different schools? The Challenge is set up to cater for children at different schools. It is simply a matter of using the students’ unique school code which is provided. We want everyone to participate! |
